Rooting HTC Wildfire

 Rooting HTC Wildfire (Froyo)

THIS GUIDE WILL HELP YOU ROOT ANY WILDFIRE WITH HBOOT VERSION 1.01.0001/1.01.0002

This guide is in fact a combination of two other guides:
http://how2rootandroiddevices.blogspot.in/2012/06/full-guide-rooting-htc-wildfire-buzz.html
http://how2rootandroiddevices.blogspot.in/2012/06/rooting-after-alpharevx.html

I take no responsibility for whatever may happen to your phone.

To root, you first need to gain S-OFF, this part is taken from the first thread.

So here we go,
- Before doing anything, make sure you have the latest HTC SYNC on your PC (get it from here).
- Connect your phone to PC and sync all your data (contacts, media, docs...etc.)
- Disconnect your phone, then uninstall HTC SYNC, but you must leave the drivers on your PC.
(i.e. Uninstall the htc sync program only, not the drivers)

S-OFFing the Device

Downgrade to HTC Froyo WWE for AlphaRevX "now named: Revolutionary" (HBOOT 1.01.0001)
It has been confirmed that AlphaRevX "Revolutionary" tool is not S-OFFing wildfire (buzz) 2.2.1, with HBOOT 1.01.0002!
Therefore, downgrading the HBOOT to 1.01.0001 is must for the meantime, to get an efficient S-OFF.
Lots of people seem to be having issues when trying to downgrade their Wildfire from a carrier-branded version (HBOOT 1.01.0002) to unbranded WWE (HBOOT 1.01.0001).

So, here’s a small package to help you do this.

If you have HBOOT 1.01.0001, you can skip to the step entitled Revolutionary

Extract this package somewhere you can find it, like your “Desktop” for example.

Step 1: run step1.bat from the package. This will downgrade your MISC partition to allow for the RUU downgrade.

At the end, GoldCardTool will start up, to allow you to create a goldcard which you will need before starting Step 2.

How to deal with Gold-Card Tool:
1. Switch off your phone, remove your microSD card.
2. Insert the microSD card into your card reader, connect it to your computer and format the card to FAT32 file system.
3. Insert the card into your HTC Wildfire and power it on.
4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your phone in Menu > Settings > Applications > Development.
5. Connect the phone to your computer via USB and set the mode to charge only.
6. Launch Gold-Card Tool on your computer and click ‘GetCID’.
7. Copy the CID code from the text box and click the link shown below that text box to open it in your browser window.
8. In the browser window, enter all the details required and submit that form.
9. You should now get an email from PSAS. Open it and download the ‘GoldCard.img’ attachment.
10. Now set your phone’s USB mode to Mass Storage.
11. In Gold-Card Tool, click ‘Refresh’.
12. Select your mounted SD card from the drop-down menu saying “HTC MMC:”
13. Click ‘Load Goldcard.img’ and select the file downloaded in Step 11.
14. Click ‘Patch MMC’ and your Gold Card will be created. You may exit Gold Card Tool once done.
After you've made the goldcard, and patched it, continue with step 2.
• Step 2: run step2.bat from the package. This will downgrade your ROM version to HTC WWE Froyo for Wildfire (unbranded).
If you get a Customer ID error while doing this, your goldcard is not working!
Create a new goldcard and re-run step2.

Revolutionary

* Steps:
1st You need to get to: http://revolutionary.io/ to download the tool, and to get your “beta key” which you’ll get in a pop-up window in the same download page after you click the download link for (windows version).
The “beta key” is a must; the tool won’t work without it!
You’ll be asked to provide your phone “serial no.”, typically it should be something like HTXXETDXXXXX, and you can get it from:
Settings --> about phone --> phone identity.

Now, do the following:
1. Run latest version of HTC Sync on your PC and connect phone in HTC Sync mode and sync all your files. Remove HTC Sync and not the drivers.
2. Reboot phone.
3. Settings->Applications->Development->Check “USB Debugging”.
4. Run Revolutionary and connect phone to PC in “Charge Only mode”.
5. Revolutionary should recognize your phone and show your Device Serial number.
7. Type out the “key” in the Revolutionary tool software, keeping in mind the upper and lower case letters and press enter (you can copy / paste the key).
8. Revolutionary should start doing its job and you’ll get S-OFF in less than 90 seconds.
9. If it takes longer, just wait for the 15 minutes mark, if nothing, then reboot phone and retry.
(Some members got S-OFF after multiple tries)

Now, to get to actually rooting the phone by installing clockworkmod and subsequently, the superuser app.

1. Ensure that your SD Card is FAT32 then copy this to the root of your SD card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...7&d=1300751790
2. Go into HBOOT(switch off phone and switch on while holding down the volume down button) and click yes when it asks you to update
3. Remove the img file from your sd card and add this file: http://bit.ly/su2361ef
4. Go into HBOOT and click Recovery!
5. Click install zip from sdcard (or some thing like that) (Protip: Navigate in the recovery with the trackpad, not the power button!)
6. Click choose zip from sdcard
7. Locate your zip and let it update
8. Boot into your now rooted phone and install ROM Manager from the market.
9. Open ROM manager and Install Clockword Mod recovery (or sth like that) twice in a row (this is important to ensure proper installation)

YOU ARE NOW ROOT!!!!

Revolutionary

* Steps:

2. Reboot phone.
3. Settings->Applications->Development->Check “USB Debugging”.

Rooting the device:
Step 1 - Installing the USB drivers
Download USB drivers (here) and extract them on desktop. Turn off your wildfire and boot into HBOOT by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button. Connect your phone to your PC and it will show "drivers installing" or similar there for Android device. When prompted, install the drivers by going to device manager and browsing to the folder where you extracted the drivers. Once installed, disconnect and reboot your phone normally.
Now you need to install the “Android bootloader interface”.
Connect your HTC wildfire to the PC and it will ask for drivers again, now go to device manager, click on unknown device “other devices”.
Click on update driver -> install from specific location -> No i will choose to install -> choose Android phone and click on “adb interface” -> click next -> when asked to install click on continue anyway, just install them.
Once done you will see your phone recognized as "Android bootloader interface".
Now disconnect your phone and go into:
Settings -> applications - > development - > enable USB Debugging.
Congratulations, the first step is complete.

N.B:
At that point, I got a real headache trying to fix that driver thing! What happened with me was totally different, the windows (7, 32-bit) didn’t seem to recognize any of these drivers and I was really so desperate, was about to give up the whole thing!
But, I’ve tried something that perfectly worked, and the driver was fixed!
How? Here we go:
If the drivers didn’t work, proceed with Step 2.
While the RUU installation is proceeding it will fix the driver itself, the installation will stop giving you a connection error, don’t panic, just exit, restart your computer (keep your phone connected, DO NOT unplug it), then start the RUU again, it will proceed normally till the end.

Step 2 - Downgrading from Android 2.2.1 Froyo to Android 2.1 Éclair
Download the RUU rom (here) which is an original stock rom. Plug your phone into the PC and set it to "Charge through USB". Double click RUU rom .exe
Follow the on screen instructions and then let it install. Your phone will reboot into stock HTC 2.1
This will be the last time you will be seeing it though.

Step 3 - Gaining root using Unrevoked, get ClockworkMod and set your phone free
Download the test version of unrevoked (here). Let me repeat, DO NOT USE UNREVOKED 3.32 as it will lead to CID errors or to be precise this error
"Validation error, backup CID is missing"
This may be caused as the 3.32 does not support the HBOOT. Hence you need specific test version of Unrevoked 3.2 to do the job. Download it, save it on desktop, and run it. Now connect your phone and the rooting will start. Once done, you will have ClockworkMod recovery installed on your phone.
Reboot your phone now (using the VOLUME UP/DOWN key for navigation and clicking using TRACKBALL, the POWER button takes you back in menus). Once rebooted, you will see the “Superuser” app in your phone and....

congratulations, your phone is successfully rooted.

Flashing CM-7 ROM (or any other ROM)
Installing CyanogenMod 7 (Android Gingerbread 2.3.3)
Download the CyanogenMod 7 (here) (choose stable mod) for best results and download the latest version.
You will also need Google apps (here) or here (for latest version).
Place both files on desktop, connect your phone as USB disk-drive and transfer both zip files on SD card. Once done, reboot your phone into ClockworkMod Recovery (booting by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button and clicking on recovery)
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side VOLUME buttons to move around, and either the POWER button or the TRACKBALL to select.
• Select the option to “Wipe data/factory reset”.
• Then select the option to “Wipe cache partition”.
• Select Install zip from SDcard.
• Select Choose zip from SDcard.
• Choose update-cm-7.0.3-buzz-signed.zip & Let it install.
• Once done, Select Install zip from SDcard.
• Select Choose zip from SDcard, choose gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
• Once the installation has finished, get back to the main menu by clicking the POWER button and select the “Reboot system now” option.
Congratulations
The HTC Wildfire should now boot into CyanogenMod

How to root Micromax A70

How to root Micromax A70

Rooting comes with several pros and several cons. While you decide to root an android you must weigh the risk benefit ratio and based on that you must move ahead. For app developers and android developers this is a passion. I am sure they would never get into such weighing measures or so. These geeks would be desperate to test the root process. Micromax A70 is an amazing android device, but not much has been tried, tested and written about this. I am sure many new developers might have tried rooting Micromax A70, but might have remained unsatisfied with the results. But in reality, rooting and unrooting Micromax A70 is very simple as compared to other Android phones. The credit for this simple procedure goes to ‘Z4 Root app‘. So, here’s the Step by Step Process to know How to Root Micromax A70 and Install Custom ClockworkMod Recovery 4 with Rom Manager. But before you try that read the disclaimer as given below:
Disclaimer: It must be noted that we shall not be responsible for any damage caused to your Micromax A70 due to rooting procedure. However, if you have any doubts you can contact us and we will surely help you. Androidust.com has produced the given information with care but rooting the phone makes its warranty void. Root it at your own risk.

Root Micromax A70 step by step

  1. The first step is to download Z4Root v1.3 from here.
  2. After that install it using any file manager.
  3. Now enable USB Debugging with this way, go to settings>applications>development and enable usb debugging.
  4. Now after that start Z4Root and click on root.
You will be given a choice that whether you wish to root Micromax A70 with complete root or soft root. The basic difference is, when you wish to do unrooting of complete root, you will have to use the same app again along with hard root. In case of soft root merely rebooting the device will unroot the handset.

Difference between Soft root and Hard root.

Soft root: Many people just want to try rooting to test something or just to try it out to see how’s theperformance after the phone is rooted. They might not want their phones to be rooted permanently. For them, soft root is handy since once the phone is restarted, it reverses all the rooting process done and makes the phone unrooted as it was earlier before rooting. So once you switch off your phone after this process, the root access is gone !

Hard root: This method will root your device permanently and it stays rooted even after restarting your phone. This method is mostly used. Even though this root is permanent, this can also be reversed if you want with the same rooting tool. Since rooting voids the phone’s warranty, unrooting or reversing the process comes in when you need claim the warranty.

ClockworkMod Recovery with ROM manager app

Note: This process is not needed if you want to only root your phone. This process will only help you to enhance the features of your rooted phone.
Now, since you have rooted the phone, it would be great to try ClockworkMod Recovery with ROM manager app. This is something that will make your Android phone highly functional. With this functionality you can take up partitioning your memory card, zip file flashing etc. For this procedure you will require a Rooted Micromax A70, the device battery to be charged at 50-60% for avoiding any sort of hampering, ROM manager App ( You can download it from Android market from your phone:  ROM manager ) and internet connection on your phone. Before you start download and install ROM manager App from Android Market or Google play now. Once you have installed that, follow the instructions below:

InstructionsROM manager on Micromax A70

  • First open ROM Manager and then select the Flash ClockWorkModRecovery (The first option).
  • Once you do that, you will get the list of devices as pop up and you need to select A70.
  • Now, let the download complete. This will definitely take some time and also it will install a few files.
  • When this is done tap Reboot Into Recovery.
  • Congrats, your Micromax A70 will be reboot into ClockWorkModRecovery.
It is vital to note that in this you will now have to use volume rocker for up and down movement and the power key will be the button for selection. Also if you have a Micromax A75 with you then you can check out how to root Micromax A75 here.

Micromax A55 : All Things Root Guide

Micromax A55 : All Things Root Guide

Micromax A55 runs on Android 2.2.1 Froyo and thus for that Z4 Root method will be apt. It is important to note that most Android handsets running on Android 2.2.1 Froyo can use Z4 root method. Now, the question is what would tempt you to root this device? Well, of course, with rooting you will get access to Super User permissions and post rooting you can perform modifications in the system files and updates. You will be able to free the Android phone and gain complete control over the operating system.
But before you move towards the rooting process you must know about the risks and this includes a risk of losing the data from the phone or even bricking the phone.
Disclaimer: Since there is some risk involved in rooting Micromax A55, we recommend that you perform the rooting procedure at your own risk. We must not be held responsible for anything that may happen with your phone after rooting.

How to Root Micromax A55

Micromax A55 can be rooted using the simple Z4 root method as developed by popular XDA developer RyanZA. You can download this app from here: Z4Root tool
After downloading the same, you need to install it on your phone. Now to root your Micromax A55, open the app and you will come across two options, one is permanent root and the other is temporary root. If it is merely for the testing purpose then you may try the temporary rooting way. But if you are actually looking for the rooting solution then in that case we recommend you to root the phone permanently. When you click on the permanent root option your handset will reboot. After the phone is rebooted, the rooting is done. You can check the same with Super User App.
Post rooting we recommend you to take the back up of the phone. Only then you must uninstall the apps that you don’t want from the system.
  • After you root an android phone you will gain access to the internal file system and thus making potent changes in them or accessing them will be very much possible.
  • You can enhance the visual experience of the phone after rooting.
  • Sometimes, you may feel quite irritated with the unwanted default apps which the manufacturers or Google packs in without an uninstall button. But since it is something that the administrator has provided you, nothing can be done. But rooting helps you in removing the unwanted default apps and that too with a very simple method.
  • Reports say it helps in reducing the battery usage of Android phones.
  • Yes, for all those who love speeding up the operating system, rooting Android brings in benefit by way of performance and speed enhancement.
  • There are many such apps that work on rooted phones only. Yes, after rooting the device, you can seek access to such apps.
The credit for Z4 root app goes to developer RyanZA and with the help of this app, Androids that run on Froyo 2.1.1 can be rooted easily.
